This review considers the technological advances and scientific background to the development of dentifrices for a variety of expressed different purposes, from caries reduction through incorporation of fluoride, through periodontal disease prevention by use of anti-microbials to tooth whitening, breath freshening and reducing hypersensitivity and calculus formation.
