The Dental Procedure Education System, or DPES, is a web-based archive that uses rich media and plain language to help patients learn about dental procedures and oral health. DPES assists dental students in learning how to communicate effectively with patients, as they work together to build a solid course of dental treatment. DPES: helping patients and students collaborate on a better smile!

 About the DPES

The Dental Procedure Education System (DPES) is a digital resource containing a collection of procedures from the dental disciplines. The procedures presented in DPES were developed by individual faculty members at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, in collaboration with a group of educational media and technology experts. Consequently, DPES reflects the philosophy that guides the teaching methods and the clinical practice of these procedures at the Faculty of Dentistry.

DPES allows the general public to view online procedures developed at the Faculty in an effort to provide a pre-operatory educational resource to its patients as well as a reference information source for the public at large. Thus, DPES may be used by patients, on their own initiative, as a preliminary informational step in their dental treatment plan by allowing the patient to review the procedure for which s/he is scheduled. More importantly, it may be used in the patient-dentist interaction as a demonstrative phase, during which the dentist informs and prepares the patient for the procedure. read more...
